Like most Marxists  the SEP which sponsor this web site have tended to view national questions as diversions  from the class struggle ,when they have not tailed national movements as anti-imperialist -since Lenin anyway. They have some good points on the sacrifices an interdependent state would impose even ,if since all parties are in the Eu pseudo- independence is really involved.  I wonder what they would do if the middle class intellectuals actually resorted to armed conflict if the constitutional court overrules the separatists .   In the case of Quebec

in which the Independence referendum failed the old hard core nationalists thought the referendum failure was not legitimate because the majority included immigrants and English speakers. I bet the no voters included worker immigrants from Castile.
